CommonProduct::BiologicProduct
Biological products, also known as biologics, "replicate natural substances such as enzymes, antibodies, or hormones in our bodies. [They] can be composed of sugars, proteins, or nucleic acids, or a combination of these substances. They may also be living entities, such as cells and tissues. Biologics are made from a variety of natural resources - human, animal, and microorganism - and may be produced by biotechnology methods. Gene-based and cellular biologics... may make it possible to treat a variety of medical conditions, including illnesses for which no other treatments are available." - FDA 101 "A material substance originating from a biological entity intended to be transplanted or infused into another (possibly the same) biological entity." - HL7 FHIR, BiologicallyDerivedProduct. Note that the FHIR BiologicallyDerivedProduct resource combines both type-level and instance-level properties into a single resource; the FHIM separates these into two classes (BiologicProduct and BiologicProductInstance), which reference each other.
