A specialization of the Patient role containing information specific to non-human patients.

This class identifies an organization-location which has been assigned to or elected by the Patient in order to schedule care. This relationship will typically be used to identify the patient's "home" facility, as well as ones commonly used by the patient, for example a facility that the patient uses while on vacation.

This class identifies a clinician who has been assigned to or elected by the Patient for certain responsibilities. This relationship will typically be used to identify the patient's Primary Care Physician in outpatient situations or the Attending Physician in inpatient situations. A Primary Care Provider is the doctor selected by the patient to be the first physician contacted for any medical problem. The doctor acts as the patient's regular physician and coordinates any other care the patient needs, such as a visit to a specialist or hospitalization. An Attending Physician is the physician legally responsible for the patient's overall care while the patient is hospitalized. This physician will often direct other clinicians in regard to the patient's care.

This class represents an organism, whether it is currently alive or not. This class is equivalent to the HL7 V3 Living Subject class.

"A birth certificate is a vital record that documents the birth of a child. Depending on the jurisdiction, a record of birth might or might not contain verification of the event by such as a midwife or doctor. In the U.S., the issuance of birth certificates is a function of the states. These forms are completed by the attendant at birth or a hospital administrator, which are then forwarded to a local or state registrar, who stores the record and issues certified copies upon request. The U.S. National Center for Health Statistics creates standard forms that are recommended for use by the individual states to document births. However, states are free to create their own forms. [adapted from wikipedia]. This class represents a Person's Birth Certificate, as defined by the U.S. Standard Certificate of Live Birth, Revision 11/2003.

The condition(s) that caused or contributed to the death of the organism. For Humans, the U.S. Standard Certificate of Death (Rev 11/2003) requires the entry of "the chain of events-diseases, injuries, or complications-that directly caused the death", beginning with the "immediate cause (final disease or condition resulting in death)" and ending with the "underlying cause (disease or injury that initiated the events resulting in death)." Note the CDC Center for Vital Statistics is required to report this information to the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO requires that this data be reported using ICD-10 codes. For Non-humans, the coding system to be used for non-humans has not been determined at this time. Added 11/23/2010 for Problem List.

[US Standard Certificate Of Birth Field 37]. Describes whether and how much the infant's mother smoked before and/or during pregnancy. The US Standard Certificate Of Birth Field 37 lists four time periods: Three months before pregnancy; first three months of pregnancy; second three months of pregnancy; and third trimester of pregnancy. It then asks for the average number of cigarettes OR packs of cigarettes smoked per day for each of these time periods. This class is modeled such that there is one instance per time period, and therefore will have up to (exactly?) four instances.

The start and end dates for the period of time a person's work is or was in a combat zone. In addition to military personnel, civilians also may work or have worked in a combat zone.

The person who should be contacted on the patients behalf under specified situations. "A contact party (e.g. guardian, partner, friend) for the patient." - HL7 FHIR, Patient.contact.

"A community of people composed of one or more nationalities and possessing a more or less defined territory and government." – Merriam-Webster. An organization created to govern a country, which has the power to grant citizenship to its people.

A document issued by a medical practitioner certifying the deceased state of a person. In the United States, this is typically the U.S. Standard Certificate of Death (Rev. 11/2003).

A person or business that employs one or more people, especially for wages or salary.

A person's current economic relationship to a job. Employment status refers to whether a person is currently working for compensation, is unemployed (i.e., searching for work for compensation), or is not in the labor force (e.g. disabled, homemaker, chooses not to work, etc.). A physical thing, group of physical things, or an organization. This class is the super-type of all Entities (colored green) in the HL7 V3 Act-Role-Entity pattern. "A physical thing, group of physical things or an organization capable of participating in Acts while in a role. An entity is a physical object that has, had or will have existence. The only exception to this is Organization, which while not having a physical presence, fulfills the other characteristics of an Entity. Entity stipulates the thing itself, not the Roles it may play: the Role of Patient, e.g., is played by the Person Entity." HL7 RIM.

Contains demographic information about the newborn's father. Note that the properties of this class can be derived from Person and therefore are all marked as Derived, yet we wanted to clearly show where the specific fields on the birth certificate can be found, so they are in this class for logical model purposes. This class would probably not be instantiated in actual implentations.

It was perhaps more useful pre-HIPAA for privacy reasons, or intra-organizational for special treatment purposes, but we do not foresee any inter-organizational requirements at this time. Note that this property mapped to PV1-16.

[US Standard Certificate Of Death Fields 13a - c]. Identifies the person who informed the authorities of the decedent's death.

[US Standard Certificate Of Death Fields 38 - 44]. Information related to cases where the decedents death was due to injury or poisoning.

[US Standard Certificate Of Birth Field 45]. This class represents an observation regarding the labor and delivery of the infant. On the form, this is a multiple-choice question (i.e., "check all that apply"), although one of the choices is "None of the above", so if that one is chosen, there should not be any others chosen. Possible values include: Induction of labor; Augmentation of labor; Non-vertex presentation; Steroids (glucocorticoids) for fetal long maturation received by the mother prior to delivery; Antibiotics received by the mother during labor; Clinical chorioamnionitis diagnosed during labor or maternal temperature >= 38C (100.4F); Moderate/heavy meconium staining of the amniotic fluid; Fetal intolerance of labor such that one or more of the following actions were taken: in-utero resuscitative measures, further fetal assessment, or operative delivery; Epidural or spinal anesthesia during labor; None of the above.
